Gold Fish Drifting in Dawn's Blue Light
By John J. McKernan

To be elected the Poet Laureate of Florida
Orange The one word without any rhyme

FireOak flickerPine flameThe glow
Of..a lump of coal….How they all move like desire
Consuming everything in their wayLittle kisses

The ghastly henna rinseCertain tints of red hair
Marilyn Monroe used Clorox
To bleach her pubic hair
Then dyed it orange

The color of Halloween..Tint of pumpkin
All Souls Night….Inside slime
Of nasal vegetative mucus and 14 thousand seeds
People carve pumpkins to remind us of tomorrow
Hollow eyesCracked teeth….Burnt out interior

The surf beckoning all in midnight moonlight
